Privacy
Cookies on this site
Nothing is set until you say yes.
When you first arrive, a bar at the bottom of the page asks whether we may set cookies. Until you choose Accept we set none, and if you ignore the bar entirely that counts as a no. Declining costs you nothing — every page, photograph and booking form works exactly the same either way.
What we set if you accept
Google Analytics. Tells us how many people visit, which pages they read, how they found us and roughly which country they are in. We use it to work out what is worth writing more of. It does not tell us your name or show us who you are. The data is processed by Google.
The Meta pixel. Lets us show Desa Hay to people on Facebook and Instagram, and tells us whether those adverts led anywhere. It means Meta receives a record that you visited this site, which Meta may combine with what it already knows about you from its own services. This is the one most people have in mind when they decline, and declining it is a perfectly reasonable thing to do.
If you decline
Neither runs. The Google tag stays on the page but is switched into a mode where it stores nothing and sets no cookies. Nothing belonging to Meta is fetched at all — not the pixel, not the script behind it. We keep a note of your answer in your own browser, so you are not asked again on every page.
Changing your mind
Choose Cookie settings at the bottom of any page and the bar comes back. Switching from accept to decline reloads the page, because by then the tags are already running and a fresh load is the only honest way to stop them.
You can also clear cookies and site data in your own browser, which has the same effect and forgets your answer along with everything else.
Booking
Our booking page runs on Cloudbeds, who handle reservations for us. When you search for dates or make a booking, Cloudbeds may set its own cookies as part of providing that service. Those are separate from the two above and are not covered by the bar.
Asking us about any of this
Write to reservation@desahay.com and a person will answer.
